5 Motorcycle Roads on the East Coast Bucket List

School, work, and life can sometimes get in the way of the things we want to do and places we want to go. We persistently talk about these great places and perhaps dream about them while we catch a few hours of sleep during the week. Reality is, we can’t just drop everything and fulfill our adventurous inhibitions, but the least we can do is be ready. For the motorcycle tourist and enthusiast out there, I’ve started just that. Here are five East Coast roads that are on my bucket list. Someday when I get the time, it will happen.

Given my Michigan roots, my scenic road trip getaway might start in Pennsylvania at the Grand Army of the Republic Highway. It is a 350 mile stretch starting in the small village of Pennline. This great-twisty road ends in a little town called Milford. Riders and subscribers on MotorcycleRoads.com give the stretch a four star rating and I would start my adventure there.

After U.S. Route 6 ejects me into the western Connecticut region, I would head north up Vermont and the west side of Maine. Although the specific roads I cannot find, this section would be aided by GPS and roadmaps – after all, spontaneity is key to adventure!

Route 1

Next, I would follow Coastal Highway Route 1 down Maine’s east coast. Perhaps this would mark my first encounter with the Atlantic Ocean. Starting in Bucksport, Maine, Route 1 meanders along the ocean and continues down the coast of Vermont. Perhaps I would follow this path for a while.

From Route 1, I would hit the famous Skyline Drive running through Virginia and ending near North Carolina. According the Road Trip USA, there are many scenic places to stop and take in.

Heading due west toward the Appalachian Mountain range, I would pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway road near Tennessee. Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-mile stretch of winding roads that connect the Appalachians to the Smokey Mountains and ends in Northern Virginia. What a stretch that will be!

Before heading there, I may visit what has been called “The Snake” in Tennessee. Follow the link above to an info graphic that shows it's 489 curves in a 33 mile stretch; a motorcycle enthusiasts' dream land!

Where are the places you would visit on the East Coast? Have any recommendations? Please comment below and share your experiences! Ride on!
